For families in rural Malawi, a trip to the nearest hospital can mean hours on foot. In Chipande, in Malawi’s Blantyre District, Akonda works alongside Malawian partners to make medical care easier to reach. The outpatient and pediatric clinics are open and serving families from Chipande and nearby communities.

When someone is sick, the outpatient clinic gives them a place to seek medical care without having to make the longer trip to a hospital for every visit.

Maternity Hospital
The Chipande Maternity Hospital is being built so mothers can receive care closer to home during pregnancy, childbirth, and the weeks after delivery. Plans include dedicated delivery rooms, space for care before and after birth, and the ability to perform cesarean deliveries.
The walls are up. Completing the roof is the next major step toward opening the hospital and welcoming mothers and babies.
